Tuesday – September 23rd
Archbishop Maroy arrives in the evening at Baltimore-Washington International Airport.

Wednesday - September 24th

Rest day at US domicile (Rectory of Our Lady of Pompeii Church, Baltimore, MD.

Thursday – September 25th

Accompanied by Jean-Louis Peta Ikambana Area Director of the American Friends Service Committee, met with Maggie Fleming, Human Rights Coordinator for Senator Sam Brownback of Kansas and Drew Simon, Administrative Assistant for Senator Richard Durbin of Illinois.

Friday – September 26th
Breakfast meeting at St. Mary’s Church in Alexandria, VA.  A partial guest list included:

- Linda Garvelink – wife of William Garvelink U.S. Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC)(The Ambassador was attending an emergency meeting at the State Department to deal with a developing crises in the DRC and was unable to join us as previously scheduled.).
- Father Jean Claude Atusameso, President, Jatukik Providence Foundation, and our host.
- GLR Executive Officers.

Monday – September 29th

Archbishop met with Ken Hackett, President, Paul Miller. Africa Advisor, and Edward Kiely, Regional Representative for Central Africa, at Catholic Relief Services (CRS) in Baltimore, MD. accompanied by GLR Executive Officers. 

Tuesday – September 30th

Archbishop was the featured speaker at a morning Seminar at the Johns Hopkins University (JHU) School of Nursing in Baltimore, sponsored by GLR and conducted by Dr. Nancy E. Glass, Ph.D., M.P.H., RN.  Dr. Glass is a faculty member at JHU and a GLR Advisory Board member.  Also in attendance were other faculty members, including Dr. Jacquelyn Campbell, Ph.D., R.N., FAAN, Anna D. Wolf Chair at the School of Nursing and also on the Advisory Board of GLR, and students at JHU; other GLR Executive Officers; and, Father Symphoriem Lopoke a Congolese priest in residence at St. James Church in Falls Church, Virginia, who served as translator.

Afternoon - Lunch with the former Archbishop of Baltimore, Cardinal William H. Keeler.

Wednesday – October 1st

Archbishop met Dr. Robert R. Redfield, M.D., who is a Professor at and the Director of Clinical Care and Research at the Institute of Human Virology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, In Baltimore, MD and GLR Executive officers. 

Thursday – October 2nd

Meeting with Archbishop Edwin F. O’Brien and Aux. Bishop Denis J. Madden of Baltimore.  Bishop Madden is also a member of the Board of Directors at CRS.

Friday - October 3, 2008

Morning meeting Archbishop at the State Department with Siria Lopez, Deputy Director at the Office of Central African Affairs; Executive Officers of GLR; and, Father Jean Claude Atusameso serving as translator. 

Luncheon meeting with Her Excellency Ambassador Faida Mitifu, Ambassador of the DRC to the United States and GLR Executive Officers.

Afternoon meeting met Sara Sywulka, Director of Relief Programs, and staff at Food For the Hungry at their offices in Washington, DC with Executive Officers of GLR.

Sunday – October 5th

Archbishop Maroy said Mass at St. Camillus Church in Silver Spring, MD, and afterwards he visited with the Congolese Diaspora from the Washington/Baltimore metropolitan area.

Monday – October 6th
Archbishop Maroy met with Dr. Matthias Cinyabuguma, PhD., President, GLR, to discuss the GLR role in developing the infrastructure in Eastern Africa in order to establish an ongoing peace.

Tuesday – October 7th

Archbishop traveled to New York to meet with Bishop Murphy of Rockville Centre.

Wednesday – October 8th

Archbishop met at JHU with Dr. Robert C. Bollinger, M.D., M.P.H., Director of the Center for Clinical Global Health Education at JHU and Chairman of the Board of Directors of GLR; Dr. Thomas Quinn, M.D., Professor at the School of Medicine at JHU and Executive Officers of GLR.

Thursday – October 9th

Morning meeting at the Catholic University of America School of Nursing with Dr. Nalini Jairath, Ph.D., Dean of the School of Nursing and Executive Officers of GLR.

Afternoon open Forum on “Building The Peace” in the Eastern DRC, with Archbishop Maroy as the featured speaker at the United Methodist Building on Capital Hill in Washington, DC.  Attendees included representatives from various humanitarian and social non-profit organizations in the Washington Metropolitan area.

Friday – October 10th

Morning meeting by the Archbishop and Executive Officers of GLR in Baltimore at Jhpiego (an affiliate of JHU) with, Dr. Leslie Mancuso, Ph.D., R.N., FAAN, President and Chief Executive Officer and Adjunct Faculty member at the JHU School of Nursing, Joe Judd, Chief Operating Officer, Dr. Alain Damiba, M.D., M.P.H., Vice President, Global Programs, Veronique Dupont, M.A., Senior Program Officer.

Afternoon departure for flight returning to Bukavu, South Kivu, DRC.
